Hello and welcome to my blog through which I hope to be able to share with you the adventures that lie ahead of me as I travel to Australia. Having worked for Gloucestershire Young Carers for many years I have now been given an amazing opportunity to visit Sydney and NSW to learn about support provided for young carers and their families where a parent experiences mental ill health. My thanks go to The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust which has made this trip possible through the award of a travel fellowship.

So many people to thank

My travel Fellowship has been made possible by The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust to whom I am hugely grateful not only for funding the trip both also for the excellent support in planning and for their genuine and lively interest in the work that I have been undertaking. Thanks go to Maggie Powell from Gloucestershire Young Carers who put the seed of the idea in my head and then helped it to grow and who said such kind things about me in her reference. To my other referee Jenny Frank from The Children's Society Include Project who has given me many opportunities to engage in the 'bigger picture' and to spread the word about young carers. To my colleagues at Gloucestershire Young Carers for their support and their tolerance of my many excited outbursts, for covering my responsibilities whilst I jet off and for teaching me to speak Australian.
